French cartographer Jacques Bertin died in Paris on May 3rd. This news has been out on a few English-language lists, but I otherwise hadn’t seen it mentioned, so thought I’d note it here. Wild Bill Bunge
Many aspiring social cartographers of the last few decades (including myself) drew inspiration from the legend of William Wheeler Bunge, Jr. Unfortunately, little information about this geographic and cartographic pioneer exists online.
